***Amazon - Approval to Test Delivery by Drone***

Amazon's delivery drones seemed like a fantastic dream by the company's eccentric billionaire founder when Jeff Bezos announced them on a television program a little more than a year ago.

Now, though, they're actually moving closer to reality.

The Federal Aviation Administration just gave Amazon the green light to test the newest prototype delivery drones outdoors. You may see Amazon testing the drones around its hometown of Seattle. Under the regulations, drones can't go more than 100 miles per hour, and can't be more than 400 feet in the air.

The flights have to take place during the day and the drones can't be out of sight of their operators. Operators must have a private pilot's certificate to fly the drones.

***A Nearly Successful Landing for SpaceX***

Earlier this month, private space company SpaceX made an attempt at landing the first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket on a floating platform in the Atlantic Ocean. On the first attempt, the rocket crashed into the barge, but an additional attempt on April 15th came closer to succeeding.

The rocket was on target but came down with too much velocity and tipped over after landing, according to initial reports from SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk. SpaceX will continue to modify and improve its system in an effort to achieve a reusable launch system, a significant and necessary advancement for private space industry.

***The Struggle for Sand***

The struggle for sand. It's hot stuff. In Dubai, enormous construction projects have exhausted nearby sources of sand, forcing them to ship it in from Australia. Efforts to limit the havoc wreaked by sand mining have spawned a boom in illegal mining: criminal gangs in 70 countries are dredging up tons of the stuff for the black market.Wired reports on how in India, " sand mafia" battles have killed hundreds of people in recent years.

***Improving Customer Service***

When giving change to retail customers, do NOT, as most cashiers do, hand them the receipt, coins, and bills all at once.

Reason: the customer already has one hand occupied holding the item purchased, making it awkward and difficult to separate these three items.

A better practice for your cashiers:

1. First, put the receipt in the bag for the customer instead of handing it to him. 2. Next, give him the coins, and wait until he puts them in his pocket.
 3. Then, hand him the bills, which he will put in his wallet.

***The Unexpected Chinese Billionaire***

When Zhang Lei started applying for Wall Street jobs in 1999, no one asked him back. One interviewer even questioned his intellectual capacity when he asked whether there was any point to gas stations. ***The New Way Diet Soda Makes You Gain***

Sorry, diet soda won't help you look better in that bathing suit this summer. In fact, regular intake of the stuff is directly linked to increased belly fat in women and men age 65 and older, finds a new study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.

To reach their conclusion, researchers measured diet soda intake, waist circumference, height, and weight of 466 adults at study onset and at three follow-ups. The result: the increase in waist circumference among daily diet soda drinkers was more than triple that of non-drinkers.Why that's so scary: greater belly fat has been linked to a greater risk of metabolic syndrome— a combo of risk factors that may lead to high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

***Dying Woman's Life Saved by Hoard of Bees***

Ellie Lobel was 27 when she was bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. And she was not yet 45 when she decided to give up fighting for survival.

Caused by corkscrew-shaped bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi, which enter the body through the bite of a tick, Lyme disease is diagnosed in around 300,000 people every year in the United States. It kills almost none of these people, and is by and large curable – if caught in time. Unfortnately for Lobel, she was diagnosed far too late for antibiotics to wipe out the bacteria, and after 15 years of fighting, she went to a beautiful spot in California to die.

After 3 days in California, Lobel walked outside for some fresh air. At this point, Ellie was struggling to stand on her own. She had a caregiver on hand to help her shuffle along the rural roads by the place where she had chosen to die.

She was just standing near a broken wall and a tree when the first bee appeared, she remembers, “just hitting me in the head”. “All of a sudden – boom! – bees everywhere.”

Her caregiver ran. But Ellie couldn’t run – she couldn’t even walk. “They were in my hair, in my head, all I heard was this crazy buzzing in my ears. I thought: wow, this is it. I’m just going to die right here.”

When the bees finally dissipated, her caregiver tried to take her to the hospital, but Ellie refused to go. “This is God’s way of putting me out of my misery even sooner,” she told him. “I’m just going to accept this.”

“I locked myself in my room and told him to come collect the body tomorrow.”

But Ellie didn’t die. Not that day, and not three to four months later.

“I just can’t believe that was three years ago, and I just can’t believe where I am now,” she said. “I had all my blood work done. Everything. We tested everything. I’m so healthy.”

She believes the bees, and their venom, saved her life.
