5 Way to Keep Your Equipment around Longer

By Tim Muprhy 5 months ago No comments

Here are some quick tips on how NOT to flush your money down the toilet...

Your equipment is probably the biggest set of assets your company has. Real estate might cost more, and money in the bank might be more crucial in the short term, but long term, you have no business if your equipment doesn’t work, or doesn’t work well enough.

That’s why it’s incredibly important to keep your equipment in good condition. This article is designed to give you five quick tips which you can implement almost immediately in order to secure a happy and long life for your equipment (and also your business.)

The First Step is to Pick Wisely

Take your average business owner: He pays the bills and takes care of his staff. Business isn’t necessarily booming but it’s steady. Everything is going well, but his goal for the year is to take the company to the next level.

He wants to:

  • Increase profits 1000%
  • Decrease his costs
  • Hire three times more staff
  • Take Fridays off every week to play golf

You can probably see problems immediately. He most likely won’t make that kind of growth if he cuts his work week short consistently, his profit goal is very ambitious, expanding the team would require increasing costs not to mention all the time and training of onboarding.

This owner is going to fail at his resolutions before he even starts.

Whereas, his goals could be to take on a couple more staff, to invest in better equipment, and to expand slowly enough that he can increase profits and take the odd vacation here and there.

That’s much more likely to succeed than the first plan.

Have your long term goals, and then be smart about what you can truly accomplish in a year.

Second Step: Work Hard

No goal is ever going to come true without a little elbow grease put into it. The guy above who wants to expand his business while taking lots of days off is fooling himself. Whatever your goal is for the New Year, be prepared to put in the blood, sweat, and tears to get there.

Third Step: Work Smart

Think of a hamster for this one. A hamster might have the goal to run a marathon. He’s going nowhere though if he runs on a hamster wheel all day. Sure, he’s getting stronger. He’s getting fitter and he even runs the equivalent of a marathon every day. He goes nowhere though – he’s working hard, but not smart.

With your New Year’s Resolution, you need to plot your way from start to finish to ensure you aren’t just working for the sake of it.

Fourth Step: Be Honest

Believe it or not, there’s no shame in readjusting your goals when you need to. If you want your business to double in size but that’s clearly not happening this year, then don’t spend your time and energy trying to make it work when it isn’t going to. Instead, reassess and re-evaluate, and then work towards a more achievable goal when you find one. That’s not giving up, that’s being honest.

Whatever your goals may be this year, we want to support you in them by getting you what you need fast and accurately. So when it comes to supplies in 2016, call Murphy.
